Darker skins: information
![]() |
Darker skins in the European climate:Skin care products for white skins are usually insufficient for darker skin types. Dark skins have a thicker epidermis, which consist of dead skin cells. This provides protection against harsh sunlight and high temperatures. This skin type also produces a great deal of sebaceous matter, making it greasy. In addition the pores are somewhat larger, and this promotes the perspiration that is necessary in a hot climate. Perspiration cools the skin. The pores are kept open in order to allow excretion of the sebaceous matter, which then forms a protective layer that keeps the skin hydrated. In the European climate, the natural protective properties of this skin type can cause problems. Insufficient perspiration and an excess of grease can block pores and increase the chance of acne. Simultaneously, dry air (central heating, frost, etc.) and lack of natural grease on the skin causes it to lose moisture. |
